How to update firmware

On this page you will find the update files for all Burrel cameras and instructions on how to update them. We recommend noting at this stage that the camera update is performed direcly from the camera using a memory card.

We recommed keeping your camera updated with the latest firmware version. To check the current version of your camera, do the following in camera's settings:

Open the settings by pressing the Menu button -> navigate to the System submenu -> scroll down and select "Information".

Below, you will find updates listed by camera model. Please ensure that you select the correct file for your camera, as using the wrong update may damage your device. If you are unsure which file is suitable for your camera, you can submit a support request to us. You can do it here.

Note! There are different hardware versions of the SMS PRO and SMS III. Please check your camera's hardware version in its settings before downloading the file (Menu -> System submenu -> Information). Ensure that the "HW Version" matches the version listed in the table.

SMS PRO: Select the update file for model S378E (without Burrel+) under the "Other Burrel Cameras" section if your camera was manufactured beofre September 2021 and does not have a Burrel ID. Updating the camera with a firmware version containing the Burrel+ feature will NOT add Burrel+ functionality but will cause the camera to malfunction!

You can use the Burrel app with any camera that sends images via email. Therefore, the camera model does not prevent the use of the application. You can find instructions for adding cameras to the Burrel app here.

How to update

Below are instructions for updating the camera based on the file type. First, download the correct firmware file from the table above, then check whether the file is an .OTA or .BIN file. Finally choose the appropriate instructions for the file below.

Windows and Mac computers should have a built-in function to extract compressed .zip files. If you have trouble extracting the file, you can submit a support request, and we will send you an unzipped file via email. Please remember to specify your camera model and hardware version.

Note! The camera password that protects the camera's settings from external access must be turned off in the camera settings before updating. Additionally, in the S22WA camera, the "Camera Tracker" feature must also be disabled. Both functions can be found in the System submenu of the camera settings. Ensure that the changes have been saved to the camera before updating. If the password or camera tracker function is on during the update, the defined password will no longer work, preventing access to the camera settings. In such a case, the camera must be sent for out-of-warranty service.

Update instructions for newer camera (.OTA-file)
1. Turn the camera power switch to OFF mode. Connect the camera to the computer using a USB cable (S22WA: Micro-USB, other cameras: Mini-USB). Alternatively remove the SD card from the camera and insert it into the computer or a memory card reader. Note that the E24 camera does not have a USB port.
2. Once the computer recognizes the device, transfer the .OTA file to the root/main folder of the camera's SD card. Note that the file cannot be opened on a computer, only the camera can read it.
3. After transferring the file, disconnect the USB cable from the camera or insert the SD card back into the camera.
4. Turn on the camera by turning the power switch to SETUP mode (S22WA camera to ON mode).
5. Once the camera has started, press the MENU button to enter the settings, then use the right arrow to navigate to the System submenu (gear icon). Scroll down to find "FW Update". Press OK and press OK again to confirm the update.
6. The camera will now update the new firmware. The update process may take several minutes. After the update, the camera will restart automatically.

Note! If an error occurs, format the camera's SD card from the camera settings (Menu -> System submenu -> Format), which will completely erase the SD card. If necessary, try updating again using a new SD card that meets the recommended specifications. SD card recommendations can be found here.
7. When the update is complete, you must restore the default settings to apply the new transmission settings. Open settings with the  MENU button and navigate to the System submenu. Find "Default settings" and press OK. The reset process takes a few seconds.

Note! If default settings is not performed after the update, old settings will remain in the camera, causing it to malfunction.

8. After restoring the default settings, check the camera settings and adjust them according to your preferences. Make sure to enter your contact details in the Sending submenu under "Phone and "Email". Also, check the "SendTo" setting. Settings must be configured directly on the camera.

Note! In Burrel+ cameras you must upload the camera settings to the server, otherwise the camera will lose them after rebooting. To upload camera settings, press "Menu", then go to the "Wireless" page, press the down arrow and select "Upload settings", press the OK button.
9. The camera is now ready for use. Make sure the camerasends pictures before using the camera on site. You can test the camera sending function by taking a manual test picture. Instructions can be found here.

2. Once the computer recognizes the device, transfer the .BIN file to the root/main folder of the camera's SD card. Note that the file cannot be opened on a computer, only the camera can read it.
3. After transferring the file, disconnect the USB cable from the camera or insert the SD card back into the camera.
4. Turn off the camera if it is on.
5. Hold down the PLAY button (the triangle between the Menu and Delete buttons) and turn the power switch to the SETUP position.
6. Keep holding the PLAY button until the camera starts normally. The software update is now complete. The update process may take several minutes.

If necessary, try updating again using a new SD card that meets the recommended specifications. SD card recommendations can be found here.
